Where it all begins…
In the Classroom
Experience in Public and Private Schools
Working as a Lead Kindergarten and First Grade Teacher, I was responsible for planning, preparing and implementing Kindergarten and First Grade Common CORE and Georgia Performance Standards for Reading, Writing, Grammar, Mathematics, Critical Thinking, Science and Social Studies to a classroom of students. I worked above and beyond to have each child strive to meet the goals specified in their individualized educational and behavioral plans. My student’s best interest was always my number one priority in helping ensure their basic needs were being met. I taught elementary subjects to students in both small and large group settings, led peer driven activities and I incorporated field trips and service projects into lessons. Moral values and character traits were discussed through literature and assignments. Creating curriculum, professional development training, collaborating and sharing ideas with colleagues sharpened my skills. I implemented practices of Montessori Theory, Applied Behavior Analysis, Behavioral Therapy, Dyslexia Education and Child Grief Counseling Techniques. Weekly lesson plans were submitted to the principal, homework activities and announcement newsletters were sent home regularly and parent communication was open through daily folders, emails and phone calls. For assessments, I reviewed student work, generated varied levels of intellectual testing, scored results and reflected upon student data to make adjustments for instruction and retaught when necessary. Flexibility was key and I made myself available to assist children with questions. Keeping student portfolios, progress reports and appropriate documentation in order and up to date was essential to the job. Throughout the year, I conferenced with parents and families about the developmental needs and concerns of their children, as well as planned future goals and discussed their progress and achievements. We celebrated milestones together with our community. Teaching in public and private schools taught me how to manage a classroom of students, work with staff and administration and most importantly, bond with families through education.

READY… SET… SUCCEED!
At The Goddard School…
Goddard’s focus on project-based learning allows children to learn by actively engaging in a task.
Experiential learning encourages children to develop independence, confidence and initiative by exploring a subject.
The Private Kindergarten/1st Grade program prepares children for success. The fun, engaging curriculum allows children to explore and discover their interests while learning academic essentials, empowering them to find happiness in learning.
The Goddard School uses the most current, academically endorsed methods to ensure that children have fun while learning the skills they need for long-term success in school and in life. While working there, I collaborated with parents and the local community to nurture children into respectful, confident and joyful learners.
Finding a stray cat on the playground led to a week-long service project partnered with the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter. We donated pet food, blankets, toys, supplies to the shelter and the cat was later adopted.
“Our daughter joined Allison’s class at The Goddard School after the school year had already started. Allison did an excellent job of acclimating her to the new environment and classmates. Throughout the year, Allison was easily available to all the parents to answer questions or address concerns. She was willing to adjust her methods to fit the needs of the child. Our daughter required some extra work with speech and fine motor skills and Allison worked with us and the therapists to provide the best educational experience for her. We are so pleased with the progress our daughter made in Allison’s classroom.” – Juliet S (Parent Reference)
